Museums celebrate with free entry and events
By choosing this theme, ICOM invites us to envision new ways to preserve and deepen our cultural identity, strengthening the role of museums as vital social pillars of development.
In this context, this year’s International Museum Day celebration will focus on the following topics:
Intangible Cultural Heritage
It is crucial for museums to showcase intangible heritage as a dynamic source of inspiration, community revitalization, and social bonding.
The Power of Youth: Museums seek new, innovative forms of collaboration and engagement with young people to understand the evolving world and foster collective development.
New Technologies: Museums are called to harness the potential of new technologies to create new forms of expression, enhance audience participation, and improve visitor experiences through the development of smart and user-friendly applications. They also have the opportunity to adapt their operations to meet emerging needs.
Honored Museum: Herakleidon Museum
The Greek section of ICOM has chosen the Herakleidon Museum as the honored institution for 2025. It combines science with art, history with innovation, offering knowledge and entertainment that appeal to all ages.
The main event of the celebration will take place on Sunday, May 18th, at 7:00 PM, at the Herakleidon Museum event hall, 16 Herakleidon Street, Thiseio.
On the same day, the museum will host guided tours and other activities with free entry for the public.
Additionally, throughout May, museums and cultural organizations across Greece will hold exhibitions, educational programs, and other events.
Free Entry at the Museum of Cycladic Art
The Museum of Cycladic Art participates in the International Museum Day celebration on Sunday, May 18th, with a series of activities for children and adults, with free admission.
In line with this year’s theme, the Museum of Cycladic Art invites visitors of all ages to explore the permanent exhibitions and learn about the objects through special activities and storytelling. Visitors will also have the chance to discover traditional art forms such as basket weaving and weaving on vertical looms, which will be demonstrated live in the museum spaces. Additionally, storytelling sessions focused on the culture and oral history of the Cyclades will be held, along with screenings related to the Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art, aimed at preserving the Cycladic cultural heritage.
